Featured Artist: The Shackeltons
Earnest Shackelton was an early 1900s explorer that attempted to cross Antarctica on foot. Little did he know, that a century later his name would be immortalized by five post-punk cavaliers from Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
The band’s recently released, self-titled, debut is loaded with all sorts of influences. The most obvious are traces of the Pixies, Joy Division, and to a lesser extent Fugazi. If you listen closely you can also hear The Strokes and just a tinge of The Talking Heads.
Their stage appearances can get quite out of hand. Frontman, Mark Redding, has been known to smash into his bandmates often resulting in flesh wounds and missing hair. Check them out here: Official Site or Myspace

Hey thanks for the tip. If they sound anything like the pixies I’m sure I’ll love em!

The Shackeltons are awesome! I’m from Lancaster, PA which isn’t all that far from Chambersburg. I saw the Shackeltons a while back before they were being covered by guys you and Rolling Stone. They’ve always been good, I’ve just been waiting for them to hit it big. I always knew they would. They’re too good not too.

I think they sound a little bit like the Killers. Anybody else hear that or am I delusional?

No, I agree. That’s the first thing I thought of when I heard. I was like, hmm they sound slightly like the killers. I think it’s mainly the singer’s voice though. Once you get past that you can definitely hear the pixies and joy division in there. Great band though.
